Machakos Governor orders arrest of pedestrians not using footbridges

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has ordered the arrest of pedestrians who defy traffic regulations on the use of footbridges in Mlolongo – By Gerald Gekara.


In a sting operation witnessed by Uzalendo News, County inspectorate officers teamed up with the police and arrested hundreds of people who risked their lives to cross the expansive 6 lane highway.

Those who were arrested were educated on the importance of observing the bridges, in a bid to curb deaths, and minimize deaths in the area.

“We will ensure that each and every road user plays their part in ensuring road safety regulations are observed. We want to call upon residents to use the availed safety crossing bridges, and avoid inconveniencing vehicular traffic.” Said one senior Traffic police officer.

Nairobi county leads in the number of road accidents that have occurred countrywide last year, just like 2018.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) report revealed that Mombasa Road is the most dangerous road in Nairobi. According to statistics, road deaths rose to 2,294 deaths in 2019 up from 2,084 deaths in 2018.
