Police officers from Elgeyo Marakwet are on high alert after a man was found with an AK-47 assault rifle at a local hotel.
The 41 year old Is said to have come from Kerio Valley.
Police say the man was heading to Kisumu but decided to spend the night at Potopoto market centre, Tindiret.
However, when the attendant demanded she had his bag checked, the man became uneasy and resisted.
In the struggle, the hotel attendant discovered he was carrying a gun, according to Abdulahi Jire, Tindiret sub-county police commander.
She raised the alarm forcing the man to flee into the dark.
The rifle has since been put in police custody.
