Man Sentenced To 20 Years For Vandalizing KPLC Transformers

After three years of trial, a Kisumu court on Monday sentenced a man to 20 years imprisonment after being found guilty of vandalizing a Kenya Power and Lighting Company transformer.

Polycarp Nyokaye Aringo the convict was arrested in 2021 facing charges of being behind the vandalism of four transformers in Nyando, Seme and another one in Nyakach.

Kisumu Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate Hon Ezekiel Obina in his sentencing, said that there was no doubt in the prosecution case that indeed the convict took part in the vandalism of the transformers.

The learned magistrate said that the court had a duty to issue a deterrence sentence and therefore 20 years was sufficient.

The charges included vandalism of energy installation and infrastructure, unauthorized connection of electrical apparatus, stealing of energy equipment among others.

The offenses are said to have been committed on the night of 4th and 5th October 2021.
