On Wednesday, drama erupted in Malindi court when a 68-year-old man facing fraud charges began shouting that Malindi Law Court is the most useless Court on Earth.
Carlos Taka, 68, is charged with six counts of obtaining money by false pretense and impersonating a public officer.
However, he has been in custody for over a year after the court denied him bond pending hearing and determination of the charges.
Today the magistrate’s decision to adjourn his case prompted the accused person’s protest.
“I’ve been in remand for more than a year simply because some witnesses refused to testify. This is the world’s most ineffective court, ” shouted the man.
He emphasized that justice delayed is justice denied.
Malindi Resident Magistrate Olga Onalo’s efforts to calm Taka down fell on deaf ears as he continued to shout angrily, eliciting laughter from the packed courtroom.
Taka was perplexed as to why his case had taken so long to resolve, despite the fact that witnesses lived nearby the court.
The Magistrate adjourned the hearing, stating that it was the final adjournment, and directed the prosecution to bring the witness to court.
