Man Stabbed To Death In Disagreement Over Playing Cards

A 28-year-old man, identified as Geoffrey Odhiambo, met a fatal end at the hands of his friend following a disagreement over a card game.

Oyugis Chief Nelson Muma reported that the conflict arose when the suspect proposed a change in the nature of the card game, suggesting that it be played on a commercial basis. The proposition involved monetary rewards for the winner, a notion that was met with resistance by the other participants.

The group, adamant about continuing the game purely for entertainment, dismissed the suspect’s proposal, leading to heightened tensions. Enraged by the rejection, the suspect attacked Odhiambo, delivering a fatal stab to the head. The violent incident unfolded on a street in Oyugis town, leaving Odhiambo sprawled on the ground, bleeding profusely.

Efforts were made to save Odhiambo’s life as he was rushed to Rachuonyo South Sub County Hospital. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated, necessitating another transfer, this time to Kisii Level Five Hospital. Tragically, Odhiambo succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday evening while undergoing treatment.

News of Odhiambo’s death sparked a retaliatory response from a group of youth residing on Athousand Street in Oyugis. They targeted the suspect’s residence at Kamuoso village, Kachieng Sub-location in East Kamagak Location, setting his house ablaze in an act of anger and grief.

Rachuonyo South police commander Lilies Wachira confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect, who is currently at large. The deceased’s body has been transferred to the morgue at Kisii Level Five Hospital, marking the somber aftermath of a dispute that turned deadly.
