Matiang’i Puts Lamu Under Curfew

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has put in place dusk to dawn curfew in Lamu regions after weekend attacks.

The 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew will go into effect immediately, according to a statement issued by the Interior Secretary on Wednesday, January 5.

There has been a sharp rise in criminal attacks in the area, resulting in the destruction of property and the loss of lives.

Majembeni, Ndamwe, Mkunumbi, Pandanguo, Witu, Hamasi, and Binde Warinde areas will be affected by the curfew.

The 12-hour curfew will also apply to Bomani, Pongwe, Mpeketoni, Bahari, Mapenya, and Hindi places.

“In accordance with Section 106 (1) of the National Police Service Act, 2011, the National Security Council has declared the following parts of Lamu County as disturbed Areas,”
