Rally Driver Maxine Wahome Set For Mental Assessment

On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, DCI Kilimani will accompany Maxine to Mathari Mental Hospital for an examination of her mental fitness to stand trial for murder.

The fate of Safari Rally driver Maxine Wahome, whose name was pulled from the World Rally Junior competition, now rests with the High Court.

Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi told police to complete the inquiry on Monday, March 13, 2023, after Maxine was charged with murder before High Court Judge Lilian Mutende last week on Tuesday.

“The investigations file that was presented to me in December last year by the police seeking time to conduct an in-depth investigation into the death of Safari Rally ace Assad Khan is hereby officially closed following the arraignment of the suspect before the superior court for a murder trial,” Magistrate Ochoi ruled.

The Magistrate issued the directives in response to Judge Mutende’s instruction that he formally close the court case against Maxine before him.

The orders were issued after defence lawyers Steve Kimathi and Anderson Musangi requested that Maxine be brought before Ochoi for additional directives in the police investigations.
