According to the workers, a mediation meeting intended to end a three-day ultimatum to harmonise their salaries status.
“The meeting that had been called by the Ministry of Labour in order to avert the looming strike by the Kenyatta National Hospital staff has failed to take place. This is after the CS,PS and SRC failed to show up.” said KNUN officials.
Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) workers had on Friday, staged a peaceful protest accusing the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) of failing to implement a proposed salary review from 8yrs ago.
“We are telling Kenyans if SRC will dilly-dally and not give us our concurrence letter today, be assured that from Monday 28, Kenyatta National Hospital remains closed until further notice,”
Since its agreement was reached in 2012, harmonisation of the new agreement was done on the top management.
According to the agreement, every worker was put in a job group that was subject to growth and allowances. It is this law that the staff want to be implemented.
Kenyatta National Hospital is the backbone of the health sector that caters for most Kenyans who cannot afford health services from private hospitals.
