Top leadership of the Methodist Church of Kenya has expressed fears that some powerful individuals both political and in government seeking to takeover forcefully and sell it’s muiti_bilion properties and Institutions

Addressing members of the press Rev Joseph Ntombura the Presiding Bishop of the Africa Methodist Council said he personally fears for his life after a previous attack at the church’s headquarters and after receiving death threats from unknown people ahead of the Church’s Annual Conference next week.

The Bishop accused the individuals of wanting to sell of the Churches properties which include the KEMU Campus and the Methodist Resort Center which are worth close to Kshs 400 Billion.

“We have very powerful people in the Government who are practicing methodists. Elections of the Church Coincide with Kenyan elections. Some people have vested interest in the properties of the church. The former leaders have even gone to court to stop us from holding an annual conference”,he said.

Ntombura revealed that in December last year armed goons invaded their office claiming to be having the backing of the Police who never acted

“They have mobilized people to stop us from holding this conference..they came here last year with armed goons and broke into our offices. They have threatened to bring a bigger force, they claimed to have the backing of the government police never acted up to date.We feel vulnerable because they claim to be having the backing of the government.

Rev Dr.Mary Kinoti the Vice Chancellor of Kemu University also says that the Institution is under attack who want to see the University shut down.

“We have a lot of issues kemu has 52,000 acres and another 84 acres including a 26 floor campus at the CBD.Because of the income and resources we have our enemies who want it sold so that they can be able to buy it”,she claimed.

Kinoti said that their rivals have embarked on a smear campaign ahead of University admissions in September.

“They are seeking our downfall, our rivals are grouping and painting Kemu in bad light especially during admission in September.Kemu belongs to the Church, kemu is doing very well,” she said.

Lawyer Danstan Omari who is representing the Methodist Church said he he has been instructed to move to Court next week to seek order to protect church properties.

Omari says he will be asking the Court to order the Inspector General of the Police to provide security during the Annual General Conference

He will also be seeking the Court’s intervention to prevent the sale of the Churches properties

The church which has close to 10,000 members has been rocked by leadership wrangles.
