Ministry of ICT PS Meets ICT Development Partners to Fast Track Completion of Ongoing Programmes

John Tanui, principal secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, met with ICT development partners in a Nairobi hotel to discuss potential areas of digital cooperation.

The meeting’s goal was to get a broad overview of the ICT partners’ work and any suggested subgroups in order to expedite the programmes’ completion.

The proposed sub-groups, according to PS Tanui, should be in line with the nation’s 2022–2023 Digital Master plan. He urged the participants to consider possible joint ventures in the fields of business process outsourcing, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency, among others.

Tanui further urged the partners to assist in reforming the ICT industry in the nation by providing input to the Sectorial Reforms Working Group’s ongoing Legislative Reforms.

The national fibre optic last-mile connectivity for schools and TVETs, public sector digital skills training, the digital economy, and other digital programmes are some of the partner programmes that have been implemented across the nation.

Representatives from GIZ, UNDP, European Union, World Bank, US Embassy, Estonia and Lithuania, UNICEF, and MasterCard were present at the meeting.
