Manchester United’s struggles continued as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, marking their 12th Premier League loss of the season. The match, decided by a first-half strike from James Maddison, exposed United’s lack of clinical finishing and compounded their injury woes.
Manager Ruben Amorim lamented his team’s inability to convert chances, admitting, “In the end, they score, we didn’t. That was the big difference.” Despite creating several clear-cut opportunities, including a glaring miss from Alejandro Garnacho and near-misses from Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, the Red Devils failed to find the back of the net.
The defeat was made more painful by the absence of key players. Amad Diallo faces the possibility of missing the rest of the season due to an ankle injury, while midfielders Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo were also sidelined. The defensive line was further weakened with injuries to Lisandro Martinez and Leny Yoro.
Amorim was forced to field a youthful bench, with eight teenagers among the substitutes. Chido Obi made his Premier League debut in the dying minutes, highlighting the depth of the injury crisis. The manager remained optimistic about integrating the young talents, stating, “They will play during this season… We just need to face it and not run away.”
Despite their struggles, Amorim maintained faith in his tactical approach but acknowledged the challenges posed by the constant lineup changes. “You start with one idea… but day after day you lose players that change your approach to the game,” he reflected.
The result leaves Manchester United facing mounting pressure as they strive to turn their season around amidst injury setbacks and inconsistency in front of goal.
