MPs Push For Ammendment To Fire Ruto

With new extreme plans to give the President vast authority to choose and fire his deputy, a new drive to change the Constitution has gathered traction in Parliament.

The Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee informed National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi of its plan to propose the bill, which would also allow the President to appoint two deputies.

The news comes as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s relationship with his deputy, William Ruto, is at an all-time low, with the two publicly feuding.

Jeremiah Kioni, the head of the CIOC and a close supporter of President Kenyatta, also supports the creation of a prime minister and two deputies, similar to the BBI report, which was rejected in the Court of Appeal on August 20.

Kioni also writes in the letter that his committee plans to present a measure to create an additional 70 constituencies.
He is also asking for a constitutional amendment to ensure that any border delimitation by the IEBC does not result in the loss of the existing 290 seats.

“The purpose of this letter is to seek your approval and to request for assistance in the preparation of the necessary bill,” the Ndaragwa MP said in a letter dated Thursday.

The news follows a series of tense meetings between Uhuru and Ruto, with the President daring the DP to leave rather than oppose the administration from inside for the first time.
