
The driver who fled the scene of an accident, which led to the death of a lawyer in Machakos County late last month, was on Wednesday arraigned in court a day after handing himself over to local authorities.
Police say that on September 24, 2022, Fidelis Mutuku, was behind the wheel of a lorry that rammed lawyer Morris Mulei’s motorbike on Kangundo road, killing him on the spot and gravely injuring his pillion passenger, Elvis Muindi.
Mutuku is said to have fled the scene immediately following the incident and remained at large until October 4, 2022, when he surrendered to Machakos Police Station.
He was charged with dangerous driving and causing death by reckless driving.
However, Machakos Law Courts Principal Magistrate Ann Nyoike ruled that the suspect be released on a bond of Ksh.200,000 with a surety of a similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Ksh 100,000.

The lawyer, whose body was transported to Montezuma Funeral Home, will be buried on Friday at his family home in Kangundo, Machakos County.
