Nairobi Governor: Nomination papers to be submitted

Candidates eying to succeed Nairobi governor Mike Sonko will submit their papers today. – By Gerald Gekara.

So far, several candidates have thrown their hats in the ring for the contest, including former Starehe legislator Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, lawyer Dr. Miguna Miguna, former Kiambu governor William Kabogo and young lawyer Mathenge Mukundi.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had pushed the deadline for presenting nomination papers to Monday 28th.

The elections body has already scheduled elections on 18 February, despite a suit filed by Mike Sonko, seeking to stop his ouster.

The former governor was impeached by members of the county assembly, who cited several charges of abuse of office, and inability to run the county operations.

Currently, speaker Benson Mutura has been sworn in as acting governor for 60 days since Nairobi did not have a deputy governor.
