An ICT Assistant at the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) was yesterday arraigned in court over allegations of fraudulently acquiring more than Ksh.6.2 million in salary using fake academic papers.

Gladys Babra Asembo appeared before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court to answer to charges after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) approved criminal charges against her.

She faced accusations of fraudulent acquisition of public property, amounting to Ksh. 6,236,053, which she allegedly received in salary and other benefits after securing employment with a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate.

According to investigations, Ms. Asembo presented the fake certificate to her employer, falsely claiming it was genuine and issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). The document, in the name of Asembo Gladys Babra, was used to secure her position at the water company.

In addition to the main charge, she was accused of intent to deceive, uttering a false document, and providing false information in her employment records. She allegedly presented the forged KCSE certificate from Makunda Mixed Secondary School and falsely declared in official records that she had attained a C+ grade, well aware that the information was untrue.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) reiterated its commitment to upholding the law, acting in the public interest, and ensuring the administration of justice.
