New Digital IDs Will Be Safe — Government Tells Kenyans

The Ministry of Interior and National Government, has said biometric information gathered from Kenyans during the transition to new digital identity cards will not be handled by third parties.

Julius Bitok, Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services, said stated that the migration from the current second generation to Maisha Cards, will allow Kenyans to access a wide range of e-citizen services

The new digital ID card with a microchip will be issued on October 2, 2023, and will contain biometric information such as a citizen’s age, gender, county, finger prints, and face, allowing them to access over 7000 services.
