Newly appointed Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) Director General (DG) Robert Njue has vowed to develop structures that will enhance the growth of the organization. – By Ramadhan Kambi.
In his first address after he was introduced to KMA staffs at the Mission to Seafarers building in Mombasa, Mr Njue said he was ready to work with the team and achieve all the objectives of the organization that is mandated with key maritime issues in the country.
“It is a big honour for me to be your new DG. I am excited to get aboard the KMA team to develop structures for the growth of the sector,” Mr Nue said.
The event was graced by Dr Nancy Karigithu, the Principal Secretary, State Department of Shipping and Maritime, KMA chairman Geoffrey Mwango, outgoing acting DG John Omingo and other KMA staffs.
Mr Njue was appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works, James Macharia, for a period of three years.
He takes over from John Omingo who was in an acting capacity after its former DG Major (rtd) George Okong’o resigned.
Dr Karigithu ring the induction saluted Mr Njue for his appointment, saying that the much focus now on KMA is about blue economy and its development.
“You are coming into KMA when a lot of focus is on the the Blue Economy which is now the 8th sector of the economic pillar of Vision 2030. So the regulator is expected to play its role to deliver the National Agenda,” she said.
Mr Mwango also hailed the new DG promising a fully support from the board of directors in achieving the organization goals and objectives.
“You have the full support of the Board of KMA to push the Authority to the next stage of growth,” Mr Mwango said.
Outgoing Acting DG also congratulated Njue on his appointment and assured him of his support.
“As KMA staff, we want to assure you of our support to steer the Authority to greater heights,” he said.
