After the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) proceeds to make annual inflation tax adjustments on excise duty levied on the products.
The cost of at least 31 goods, including beer, fuel, bottled water, and juice, would increase starting October 1.
The taxman announced on Tuesday that excise duty on the products will rise 4.97 per cent to keep pace with annual inflation.
As a result, manufacturers will pass on the increased cost of the commodities to end consumers, thereby escalating public resentment over the high cost of living.
The repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, which resulted in layoffs, salary cuts, and business closures, have yet to be felt by most households.
The price of a litre of beer will increase by Sh5.77, while the price of spirits will increase by Sh13.20.
Petrol will rise by Sh1.09 per litre, bringing the excise duty to Sh23.04, while diesel and kerosene will each rise by Sh0.566 per litre.
The change is in accordance with the legislation, which mandates that excise tax be increased in lockstep with the cost of living index or the 12-month average rate of inflation.
Last year, prices of the items rose by at least 5.43 per cent, a blow to consumers who were already suffering from job losses and unpaid leave as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.
