NMS To Roll Out New Vehicles For County Askaris

Nairobi County law enforcement officers, called Kanjos, will receive 250 motor cars for Ksh250 million.

Mark Leleruk, the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) Director in Charge of Enforcement, said the vehicles will enhance officers’ mobility and ensure quality service delivery.

According to Leleruk, the NMS Director, Major Gen. Mohammed Badi, pushed out a plan to buy the vehicles for Ksh 1 million each.

The cars are intended to help the enforcement team’s operations in accordance with the Nairobi City County Public Nuisance Bill, which was passed into law by acting Governor Anne Kananu.

“We’re working nonstop to make sure we have the new trucks we need to help us with our operations. Many people are afraid of the so-called kanjo vehicles, but we’re working hard to make sure they’re in good shape,” Leleruk said.

For decades, law enforcement officials have been accused of driving unsafe cars that endanger other drivers and pedestrians.
The enforcers are responsible for policing the law, with city traders and pedestrians being the primary targets.

This comes only days after the Kananu adopted the Nuisance Bill, which seeks to make public urination, spitting, and blowing one’s nose without a handkerchief illegal.
