Obado Murder Trial To Proceed In September

Over 10 witnesses have so far testified in the case including several officers from the crime scene investigation department

Migori County Governor Okoth Obado and two others Murder case was on Thursday July 28,2022 adjourned to September.

This comes after the defence lawyer led by Kioko Kilukumi protested the move by the prosecution to introduce new evidence which had not be supplied to them.

This prompted Justice Cecilia Githua to postpone the trial until September and order the Prosecutions to serve the defence with the intended new evidence.

Similarly, a witness set to testify in the murder was today stood down following the defence lawyers application to have his testimony struck from the court’s records. In rebuttal,the prosecution submitted to have the witness stood down to pave way for the ODPP to respond to the defence’s claim.

In the case,Governor Obado is charged alongside his Personal Assistant and a Secretary for the gruesome murder of Sharon and her unborn child in September 2018.
A post-mortem revealed she had possibly been raped, and stabbed eight times in the neck, abdomen and back. She lost her unborn child during the attack.

In a statement following the murder, DPP Haji was recorded saying “Sharon and her unborn baby lost their lives in a gruesome and horrifying manner in the hands of her killers. My office is therefore committed to ensuring that all the perpetrators of the heinous act are brought to book and subjected to the due process of the law,”

The case proceeds in September 2022.
