One Million Youth Sign Up For Kazi Mtaani

Over a million Kenyan youth have signed up for the Kazi Mtaani program, painting a picture of how desperate the unemployment situation is among the youth.

It’s a high-water mark for the number of people who have registered in just eight days since the government began the process last Friday.

According to data from the State Department of Housing and Urban Development, 128,613 people register for the program every day.

Nairobi leads the way with 166,00o people who have registered for the program since its third phase began, followed by Kiambu with 70,600 and Nakuru with 53,500.

In terms of county registration, each county has an average of 19,053 youths.

On Friday, November 19, 2021, the Kazi Mtaani website crashed just two hours after the government launched the third phase of the program.

Principal Secretary of the State Department of Housing and Urban Development Charles Hinga blamed the portal’s downtime on high traffic from Kenyans seeking jobs.

Last Friday, the government launched the third phase of its plan to increase job prospects for young people across the country.

It seeks to include at least 3,400 youths who are experienced, semi-skilled, or inexperienced from all 47 counties.

Construction works to finish previously stalled economic stimulus program markets, construction works using Appropriate Building Materials and Technologies (ABMT), construction of hostels in selected TVETS, and construction works to remove asbestos roofing from government estates are among the opportunities.
