Lamu County is on high alert after approximately 150 Al-Shabaab militants raided Mangai Village, near the BPU Mangai Camp, in a late-night incursion that has left residents shaken.
According to security reports, the heavily armed militants first probed the nearby Border Patrol Unit (BPU) camp before splitting into two groups.
One faction remained stationed at the camp while the other stormed the village in search of area chiefs and National Police Reservists (NPR) officers.
Eyewitnesses say the militants gathered locals, delivered a lengthy lecture, and distributed dates before retreating to an unknown location.
No casualties were reported, but the brazen nature of the attack has heightened fears of further incursions.
A heightened security presence has been deployed to monitor the situation and prevent further attacks.
Al-Shabaab militants have been responsible for a series of attacks in Lamu and along the Kenya-Somalia border, often targeting security forces and civilians. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
