Kiambu: Man Arrested For Impregnating His 15-Year-Old Daughter

A 47-year-old man from Kagambwa village in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, is being held after allegedly impregnating his minor daughter.

David Mbugua, a father of three, is said to have routinely enjoyed sex with his biological daughter, during which he could entice her with various behaviours.

However, his early last year’s sprees proved more fruitful for him, as after allegedly committing the heinous act, his 15-year-old girl conceived, resulting in a successful delivery on December 28, 2022.

According to the minor’s mother, Virginia Muthoki, she began suspecting the two due to her husband’s suspicious behaviour and occasional outings with the daughter.

Following a series of suspicions, Muthoki revealed the situation to Mbugua, who threatened her with legal action if she revealed the ordeal.

“He has always threatened me whenever I raised the issue with him. He often asked me; you want to take me to jail? I’m asking the government to help me as I am currently helpless,” said Muthoki.

Mbugua is said to have asked Muthoki to help him take the minor to his sister in Naivasha, where she gave birth.

Despite this, Muthoki, with the help of a few neighbours, mobilised and informed sleuths who arrested the suspect before fleeing to safer grounds for fear of mistreatment if the man was released.

Neighbors who spoke to journalists described the act as one that could only be performed by a beast.

The embarrassed residents urged police and other law enforcement agencies to teach the suspect a lesson in order to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Italy Switch To Adidas, Reveal New Kits

Today, Adidas is presenting its first product collection for the Italian National Football teams, created in collaboration with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

Starting from January 1st, 2023, as previously announced, adidas is the official partner of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and outfits all the Italian national teams (men’s, women’s, youth, futsal, beach soccer and e-sports).

Bjørn Gulden, Chief Executive Officer at adidas, said: “Italy is one of the most storied and successful national teams in all of football. We are very proud to officially welcome the FIGC and all its teams to the adidas family and we look forward to a successful partnership together. At the same time, we are tremendously excited to finally be able to share with the world our fantastic line-up of products including beautiful home and away kits. They are quintessentially Italian and elegant while staying true to the iconic heritage of the ´Azzurri`.”

Gabriele Gravina, President of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), commented: “Today we are entering into a new era and we are proud to be doing it with adidas, which has best interpreted, and in a modern way, the passion and the tradition of the Azzurri. For 113 years, the Italian national football team has represented a symbol of values and style around the world, our football kit is a national heritage that goes beyond sport, because it transmits feelings that unite people of different ages, sexes and social backgrounds. The male and female national football teams represent a strong element of identity, that we will enhance to the fullest with this new partnership.”

The new “home” kit will be worn on the pitch tomorrow Wednesday January 18th in the friendly match Under 18 between Italy and Spain planned at the Technical Federal Centre of Coverciano (Italy). This is the first time a youth team debuts the new jersey ahead of the main National squad.

THE NEW ADIDAS X FIGC COLLECTION

Much of the collection’s design is inspired by marble, a natural, geographical and cultural element that represents the whole of Italy and has been present in many monuments and places throughout the Italian Peninsula over the centuries.

The ‘Home’ kit, which boasts a blue colour base as per tradition, sees marble, an element that is replicated on the fabric through manual work that combines traditional craftsmanship of raw materials and highly innovative techniques, as a focal inspiration on both jersey and shorts for a cohesive and beautifully integrated design.

In addition to the exclusive pattern, there are other references to Italian culture on the ‘Home’ kit, such as the Tricolour details delicately inserted on the shoulders: an elegant borderline has been added to each of the three adidas stripes to recreate the colours of the Italian flag. The Tricolour is also present on the jersey sides and edging. Finally, the back of the collar bears the word ‘Italia’, completely customised with a clear reference to Roman engravings, the same approach used in the lettering of the players’ names and in the numbering of the jerseys.

The sleeves and collar are decorated with delicate but striking gold details, which embellish the kit as a reminder of the Federation’s successes.

The Adidas logo and the new FIGC crest logo, released in the recent days, are heat-applied and positioned on the front centre at chest height.

The ‘Away’ kit is also strongly inspired by marble, that makes a bold return thanks to the light shade of the base: the predominant colour is ‘off-white’, with a clear reference to the raw material that distinguishes the whole kit, embellished by the graphic design with navy blue and gold veining.

The ‘Away’ kit features the same Italy-related details, such as the Tricolour on the three adidas stripes and the ‘Italia’ lettering.

Both kits are created using the best adidas innovations, in particular materials that allow athletes to feel comfortable thanks to HEAT.DRY technology, optimized to provide players with maximum comfort and breathability during sports performance. The jerseys are made from 100 per cent recycled materials.

The wider range complements the ‘Home’ and ‘Away’ with pieces including an anthem jacket, created in a unique double-sided design, and the warm-up products that share the marble aesthetic in a colour palette that connects to the Italian Tricolour.

Completing the collection is a range of training products, again in bold blue and white with accents from the Tricolour, that allow for one look and feel for the player across every part of representing the national team.

Luis Suarez Nets Sensational 38-Minute Debut Hat-trick

Former Liverpool and Atletico Madrid forward Luis Suarez marked his Gremio debut in style by bagging a rapid first-half hat-trick on Tuesday night.

Suarez, 35, joined the Brazilian outfit earlier this month following a stint with his boyhood club Nacional.

The veteran forward, who penned a two-year deal following Uruguay’s exit from the World Cup last month, netted eight times in 14 outings to fire Nacional to the Uruguayan title last season but was always expected to seek a new challenge once his deal was up.

Gremio also enjoyed a successful campaign last season after earning promotion to Brazil’s Serie A – and Suarez’ instant impact led them to more glory in the form of the Recopa Gaucha Super Cup.

Suarez opened his account after just four minutes with composed chip, only for Sao Luiz to hit back almost instantly. Bitello restored Gremio’s lead before Suarez put the result beyond doubt with two more goals to seal a 4-1 win: a trademark finish and rasping volley.

Tuesday night’s haul is the first time the veteran has bagged a treble since he plundered four goals in a single game against Norwich during his spell at Liverpool. And he admitted that it was probably his best ever debut, topping the two-goal cameo he produced on his debut for Atletico Madrid.

Suarez’ performance, unsurprisingly, left Gremio coach Renato purring. Speaking after the match, he said: “It couldn’t have been better his debut. The fans believe in him, so are we. He showed what he came for. He quickly made it into the group because he’s a very humble person. He doesn’t want the highlights or perks, he just want to be like everyone else.”

Son Of E Guinea President Held Over Sale Of Plane

One of the sons of the president of Equatorial Guinea has been arrested on suspicion of illegally selling a plane belonging to the national airline.

State media said Ruslan Obiang Nsue is alleged to have sold the 74-seater turboprop to a company based in the Canary Islands.

An inquiry was launched last year when it was discovered that the plane had gone missing while undergoing routine maintenance in Spain.

The suspect used to run the national airline in Equatorial Guinea, a country firmly in the hands of the family of President Obiang Nguema who has been in power for 43 years.

Shots Fired At DR Congo Protest Against Regional Force – Reports

Police in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have reportedly fired tear gas and live bullets at people protesting against the presence of regional troops.

The East Africa regional force – composed of soldiers from Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, and Burundi – was deployed in November 2022 to enforce peace if that part of the country.

But activists have accused it of inaction and called for protests on Wednesday in the provincial capital, Goma.

Local reports say tear gas and live bullets were fired at the protesters. At least two journalists were hit by what are believed to be tear gas cannisters, but they survived without injuries.

Two other journalists have been taken into police custody.

On Tuesday, the mayor of Goma had banned the protests and said that only representatives of the activists would be allowed to drop a petition at his office.

The regional force has appeared to be making progress. One of the major armed groups operating in the region, the M23, has already handed over previously seized territories, in line with an agreement reached by heads of state at a summit last year in the Angolan capital, Luanda.

But speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday, DR Congo’s President Felix Tshisekedi said the M23 rebels had not withdrawn from those areas, but were moving around and redeploying.

President Tshisekedi insists the M23 rebels are supported by neighbouring Rwanda, an accusation Kigali has continued to deny.

People in the resource-rich North Kivu province have lived through armed conflict for decades.

Kenyan EALA MPs Lobby For Inclusion In PSC Among Others

Kenyan representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), also known as EALA MPs, are now seeking inclusion in the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) and, among other things, a budget.

The MPs, led by their chairman Kanini Kega, paid a courtesy call to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on Tuesday, seeking Wetangula’s intervention to have them incorporated into the PSC, where the Speaker also serves as Chairman of the Commission.

According to a statement from Parliament, among their demands are an office in Nairobi, a budget, a car mortgage, and a transportation allowance, among other things.

Speaker Wetangula, for his part, promised to make a constitutional amendment to implement their demands.

“Speaker Wetang’ula committed to engage with the Attorney General, Justin Muturi to deliberate on a constitutional amendment to incorporate Kenyan East African Legislation Assembly Members into the Kenyan PSC just like their counterpart in our neighboring country Uganda,” read part of the statement.

Speaker Wetangula also pledged to meet with East African Community Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano to ensure that the budget is allocated in a way that “will also assist them in delivering their mandate.”

According to the East African, the EALA MPs currently earn a basic salary of Ksh.781,776 ($6,408) plus allowances worth up to Ksh.1.7 million ($14,000). Each of the 54 MPs is entitled to Ksh.19,520 ($160) per sitting.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Kalonzo, ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s daughter Winnie Odinga, Former MP Kanini Kega, and Mombasa businessman Suleiman Shahbal are among the delegation members.

Others include former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, former Woman Rep Zipporah Kering, ex-Nominated MP David ole Sankok, Godfrey Mwangi, and former Senator Falhada Dekow.

Naivasha Level IV Hospital Board Sacked Over Poor Governance

The Nakuru County government has dissolved the Naivasha Level 4 hospital board due to poor governance and a failure to oversee the facility’s management.

Following a public outcry over the provision of services in the debt-ridden hospital, the board was fired.

The dissolution came just hours after a protest outside the hospital against the death of a woman who died from excessive bleeding hours after giving birth.

On Tuesday, angry residents blocked the road leading to the facility to protest the death of Rebecca Wangari, 23, who had been admitted for three days.

While issuing the directive, County Secretary Dr. Samuel Mwaura stated that this was part of the hospital’s restructuring, which serves over 1,000 people every day.

He admitted that the hospital was facing a slew of issues, including a staff and medical shortage, which had hampered service delivery.

He stated that the county was eager to address it by hiring more personnel and providing the necessary drugs and equipment.

The County Secretary also stated that a team had been formed to investigate alleged cases of maternal deaths, with the promise of taking appropriate action.

According to him, the hospital owed suppliers Sh250 million, making it impossible to provide the necessary services.

Mwaura also stated that the failure to promote medical personnel since 2015 had harmed staff morale and that this would be addressed within the next month.

Concerning the drug shortage, he stated that the count had initially purchased drugs worth Sh48 million and that another batch worth Sh100 million was on its way to address the current shortage in public hospitals.

Viwandani MCA Mwangi Muraya welcomed the decision to oust the board, noting that it was part of the measures put in place to improve service delivery at the public hospital.

Priest Found Guilty, Sentenced To Eight Years In Prison For ‘Conspiracy’

The dictatorship of President Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua has found a Catholic priest, imprisoned since August 2022, guilty of “conspiracy” against the state.

According to the Nicaraguan media outlet 100% Noticias, Judge Nancy Aguirre of the Tenth Criminal District Trial Court of Managua found Father Oscar Benavidez Dávila guilty of the crimes of “conspiracy to undermine national security and sovereignty” and “spreading fake news.”

The prosecution is now asking for a sentence of eight years in prison for the priest, the pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in the town of Mulukukú in the Diocese of Siuna.

The accusations against the priest were made in September 2022 after he was held under arrest for 42 days in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ) in Managua, better known as El Chipote, a prison notorious for torturing political opponents of the regime. The priest was apprehended Aug. 14, 2022, after celebrating Mass and was taken to the prison.

At that time, the Diocese of Siuna published a statement stating it didn’t know “the causes or reasons for his arrest and we hope that the authorities will keep us informed.”

The diocese also asked for prayers for Benavidez, whose “sole mission is and has been to announce the good news of Jesus Christ, who is the word of life and salvation for all.”

According to the priest’s defense, his “crime” was supposedly expressing his opinion in a social media post.

The Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa reported that the priest was transferred in October 2022 to the Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System, a prison known as “La Modelo” located in the town of Tipitapa.

In total there are nine Nicaraguan priests that the dictatorship has accused of the crime of “conspiracy,” including the bishop of Matagalpa, Rolando Álvarez. At a Jan. 10 hearing, the bishop’s case was referred to trial.

Mang’u High School Receives Boost to Scale Aviation Studies

KCB Bank Kenya has partnered with Mang’u High School to scale its aviation training programme in what will see hundreds of students benefit in the next five years.

KCB will facilitate the equipping of the School’s aviation center, providing the students with hands-on experience in aviation and prepare them for careers in the aviation industry.

Kenya Airways has donated an aircraft—Boeing 737-700—to the school and KCB will facilitate its transfer from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the Thika-based facility and support in kitting the aviation center. The Bank has put in KShs.5 million towards the project.

“KCB remains committed in supporting the youth agenda and that includes access to skills development, business development support and financing. We believe that a strong investment in our youth today is a recipe for economic growth. Through this sponsorship, our goal is to inspire students to take up a career in the aviation sector with a long-term goal of mainstreaming it in our curriculum,” said KCB Group CEO Paul Russo while making the donation.

The programme is expected to train a critical mass of future air traffic controllers, aircraft engineers, pilots among others.

Mang’u High School is one of the few schools in Kenya that offer aviation training, focusing on technical skills such as propulsion, thermodynamics, & meteorology. The aviation students undertake most of their studies at Wilson Airport & Moi Air Base in Eastleigh.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from KCB and other organisations. We believe that a strong aviation program is essential for preparing students for the future in this field,” said Mang’u High School Board of Management Chairman, Mr. Anthony Maina Mithanga.

Government statistics show that Kenya has a deficit of over 2000 pilots and has an ambition of training at least 800 annually in the next five years.

Saudi Businessman Pays $2.6m For Ronaldo-Messi Match Ticket

A Saudi real estate mogul has won a ticket to see Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi face off in a friendly after bidding $2.6m at auction, an official said.

The match on Thursday in Riyadh is set to pit Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain against a select side made up of players from Ronaldo’s new club Al Nassr and their Saudi rivals Al Hilal.

It will mark the first time Ronaldo has played any football in the kingdom since signing a contract with Al Nassr that runs until 2025 and is worth more than 200 million euros ($214m), according to sources close to the club.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is scheduled to make his Saudi Pro League debut for Al Nassr on Sunday.

To promote Thursday’s friendly, Turki al-Sheikh, an adviser at the Royal Court and head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, announced a charity auction for a special ticket that would come with perks like photo opportunities with players and access to the locker rooms.

Bidding started at 1 million Saudi riyals ($266,000) and the auction closed at 11:30pm (20:30 GMT) on Tuesday.

Al-Sheikh then announced on Twitter the winning bid of 10 million riyals ($2.6m) had come from Mushref al-Ghamdi.

“Congratulations, you deserve it, and may God reward you with good,” Sheikh said.

The proceeds from the auction are due to go to the national charity campaign known as Ehsan.

Besides Messi, the PSG players expected to play on Thursday include France striker Kylian Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi, who last year in Qatar helped make Morocco the first Arab and African team to reach the World Cup semifinals.

The Saudi select team includes Salem al-Dawsari, who scored the winning goal in the Green Falcons’ shock defeat of Argentina in the World Cup’s group stage.
