COVID-19: Mombasa closes two schools after 15 teachers tested positive

star of the sea

Two secondary schools in Mombasa County have been forced to close down for two weeks, after 15 teachers were confirmed to be COVID-19 positive.

The two schools, Tononoka Secondary School and Star of the Sea Secondary school, had to cancel examinations for their candidates to avoid further contamination of the virus.

Star of the Sea reported 11 cases of the Coronavirus among its teaching fraternity, while Tononoka reported 4 cases.

The incident now casts a shadow on the state’s move to reopen lerning centers, as therisk of contracting the lethal virus is higher among children. This is attributed to children’s inability to maintain social distancing while they are a learning.

Kenya has been on high alert over the rising cases of the virus, barely two weeks after the state lifted some precautions that restricted public gatherings and crowding.

So far the country has confirmed over 46,000 cases of the virus, with 858 deaths being reported since the pandemic was reported in the country.

Tangatanga responds after BBI announcement

tangatanga

Politicians allied to the tanga tanga faction of the Jubilee party have come out to express their views on the Building Bridges Initiative set to be revealed on Monday, 26th October.

Jubilee Deputy Secretary General Caleb Kositany reprimanded President Uhuru and Raila Odinga over the mission to unite themselves instead of the whole nation.

“According to president Uhuru BBI is about uniting’s, his brother Raila has missed the point by a mile. Why launch BBI with so much venom. Raila pungusa hasira… Ni yetu sisi zote.(Raila tone down your anger, The BBI is for all of us)

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator laughed off the idea of having two senators, saying the proponents have completely misunderstood the whole idea of devolution.

“Those proposing two senators per county do not understand the place of devolution and Senate in our Constitutional architecture and the principle of equality of counties. Every county has only one VOTE in Senate, what will two senators be doing? DELETE!”.

Vocal Homa Bay County women rep Gladys Wanga emphasized on the need to maintain the National agenda and downplayed tribal politics.

“Raila’s arrogance about BBI reggae in Kisii notwithstanding, a “robust national conversation that brings everybody on board” as eloquently espoused by the DP in his speech can not be avoided. Failure to which BBI will go on a permanent halfterm.” said Wanga.

All eyes will be on the Handshake duo, President Uhuru Kenyatta and former prime minister Raila Odinga as the state prepares to launch the Building Bridges Initiative report (BBI) at Bomas of Kenya.

Moi sacked late Cop Wachira over US terror attack

The daring 11 O’clock attack at the Kenyan US Embassy in Nairobi was the excuse for relieving the ex-cop his duties by President Daniel Arap Moi.

The attack was executed at the US embassy headquarters, then hoisted at the Moi Avenue/Haile Sellasie avenue junction.

The crime scene was only 50 metres from the National Police Headquarters, popularly known as Vigilance House.

During the dreaded attack, Wachira was holed up in his office at the 3rd Floor. He appeared clueless as the explosion tore the embassy into pieces, and killed hundreds of Kenyans.

After the attack, the Kenya Army took over rescue efforts at the the US Embassy building, the flattened Ufundi Sacco and Cooperative Bank building.

The operation was led by Brigadier David Agoi, now the MP for Sabatia.

Wachira became a bystander, a passive observer and a security flower boy until former President Moi sacked him.

He was replaced by Philemon Abong’o, the first beneficiary of the Luo-Moi handshake.

‘Strong Man’

When he was appointed Police Commisioner in 1996, Wachira was nicknamed strong man by fellow police officers. He was feared and respected in equal measure.

A career Criminal Investigations Department (CID) man, Wachira was instrumental in eliminating armed gangsters in Nairobi and Kiambu.

He had formed a lethal partnership with former NYS Chief Mwania, through which hundreds of common thugs were dispatched to the next world.

However, Wachira was also accused of grabbing a prime plot in Upper Hill, together with Justice Aaron Ringera.

The plot had been set aside for the construction of Police Headquarters, situated at the junction of Elgon Road and Matumbato.

Wachira will for long be remembered for his role as the pioneer direct inspectorate cadet hired to streamline police force.

Wheelbarrows will not address Kenya challenges,” Kilifi Governor tells Ruto

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has torn into wheelbarrow initiatives by Deputy President William Ruto terming it a political gimmick that has no benefit to Kenyans.  – By Ramadhan Kambi.

While addressing Kilifi residents during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at Pwani University grounds the governor said Kenyans will only be freed from poverty, tribalism, and unemployment through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

“The same that are opposing the BBI are the ones going out to give out wheelbarrows as handouts. So they are blocking you from getting the benefits of the BBI and think that they can blindfold you with wheelbarrows,” he said.

Mr Kingi who was in the company of Kilifi County Commissioner Kutswa Olaka said that the BBI report has outlined various interventions including increasing money to counties from the current 15 per cent they are receiving, a situation he said will improve the lives of the residents in counties.

“We have been pushing for the increase of funds to counties from the current 15 per cent and that has been addressed in the BBI report. But it baffles me that someone would go to an extent of opposing the document with all these interventions and then the only thing he gives is wheelbarrows. This is unfair and such people should be ignored,” the governor added.

Mr Kingi downplayed the hustler narrative saying that the DP is far away richer than the people he wants to lie to always.

“If you are hustler like him, then show me your chopper, your luxury houses not one and the luxury cars you own and then we shall know that you are like him. Other than that, then you are cheating yourself away,” he said.

He called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga to immediately release the contents of the BBI report to Kenyans so that the speculative agenda by the Tangatanga team can be silenced.

“If we continue to withhold the report, the prophets of doom will continue to speculate and continue to lie to Kenyans about its contents, I am asking the President and Mr Odinga to release the report,” he added.

Kingi also promised to help deliver and explain the BBI document to his residents, insisting that he will lead in ensuring that Kilifi gets to know the importance of what is contained in the document.

“I will move out as a Governor in 2022 and another person will come in but if BBI is not addressed then the challenges that are there will still exist. I will be in my most pains when after retirement, the only thing I will see in Kilifi is wheelbarrows. That is not what we want as Kilifi residents,” he said.

Richarlison got 10,000 messages in five minutes after Neymar mistakenly revealed his number

He confessed his mistake to Richarlison seconds later when he picked up.

The PSG star told him while laughing: “I think I’ve just shown your number without meaning to. I swear it was an accident.”

He continued to goad the the Everton forward about the gaffe and added: “We’re online. Give a wave.

“You’re going to have to change your number now.”

Richarlison, seemingly unfazed, told fans not to message him or they will be blocked.

He responded: “Hey guys, whoever calls me is going to be blocked, don’t call me.”

But his warning fell on deaf ears and his phone went berserk with messages during their game of Counter Strike on streaming platform Twitch on Sunday.

Richarlison took to Twitter to share his frustration about the unwanted flood of messages from fans and he sarcastically branded Neymar a ‘genius.’

He said: “In five minutes I’ve already had 10,000 messages. Thanks Neymar.”

Richarlison, 23, made headlines on Saturday over the red card he received for his horror lunge on Liverpool midfielder Thiago during the Merseyside derby.

He later issued a public apology for his actions, claiming that his ‘over-dedication’ led to the late lunge and that he had no intention of hurting the former Bayern Munich player.

Richarlison added: “Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to change what happened, other than to reflect, work and move on.”

Man U bites PSG…again!

Marcus Rashford repeated his late heroics against Paris St-Germain with a superb winner as Manchester United marked their return to the Champions League with a fine win at the home of last season’s beaten finalists.

Rashford’s stoppage-time penalty sealed a famous victory at the Parc des Princes 18 months ago and the England striker was again on target to ensure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side took maximum points from their opening match in a formidable group.

The visitors had excelled in a first half which saw Bruno Fernandes stroke them ahead with a twice-taken penalty.
But the multiple French champions were far stronger and threatening in the second half and deservedly drew level when United striker Anthony Martial headed into his own net.

David de Gea had to put in a much-improved display in United’s goal, making strong saves to deny PSG’s superstar duo Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

And the sides looked set to share the points when Rashford collected a pass from substitute Paul Pogba, rolled away from a defender and fired in off the base of the post from 20 yards.

Same old PSG?

The rebuilding of Paris St-Germain has long been aimed solely at European glory – with domestic monopoly tied up years ago – and the run to the final just 58 days ago looked like a key juncture.

Thomas Tuchel’s side is packed with blistering talent, but question marks over their consistency have long been raised and this was another frustrating display.

They moved the ball far too slowly in the first half and deserved to find themselves behind, even if De Gea was called into a double save from Angel di Maria and Layvin Kurzawa.

Tuchel moved Di Maria deeper at half-time, sending on Everton loanee Moise Kean up front, and his side were better. De Gea again made a flying save to deny Mbappe after a typically brilliant run, and Kurzawa hit the crossbar with a miscued cross.
Martial gave them a route back into the match when he nodded Neymar’s inswinging corner into his own net, but United improved when Pogba came on.

With RB Leipzig – semi-finalists last season – up and running with a win, it is now Tuchel’s side who need to click into gear fast just to make it out of Group H.

COVID-19: Kilifi fires warning shot at residents flouting rules

Speaking during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, County Commissioner Kutswa Olaka said matatu operators, boda boda cyclist and private vehicle owners had ignored all the health guidelines and are now returning to their normal chaotic style of operating.

“We have noticed that people are returning to normal lives when it is clear that the second wave of the virus pandemic is here with us. We have seen a trend where people are being ferried in crowded matatus, flouting the social distance protocol. We also have people going around without wearing masks, clearly exposing themselves to the diseases. Soon, we shall soon start a crackdown on this so that we can have sanity and that the health guidelines must be adhered to,” he said.

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi said currently the county has so far recorded more than 400 cases of Covid-19 patients with the disease taking away the lives of six people in the county since it was reported in the country.

He blamed politicians he said were fuelling the spread of the virus by engaging crowds and failure to follow the laid down health guidelines.

“We as the politicians are partly to blame for this and my colleagues here, please, if you go to a place where these Covid-19 protocols are not followed, don’t be part of those braking it. Talk to the community and tell them the dangers they are exposing themselves to and then leave. These crowds mounted by politicians are a recipe for the spread of the virus,” he said.

Nigeria’s peaceful protesters against police brutality have reportedly been shot dead in Nigeria’s biggest city, Lagos. – By Gerald Gekara.

According to reports, about 20 bodies and at least 50 were injured in the confrontation, after soldiers confronted the protest.

Nigeria government has opened investigations into what exactly happened, and who authorised the shooting.

Following the incident, an indefinite 24-hour curfew has been imposed on Lagos and other regions.

However, protesters stormed the US Embassy to protest the killings.

“Nigerians in DMV are currently gathered at the Potomac, Maryland residence of Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States to protest the killing of peaceful protestors in Lagos today.”

Protests over a now-disbanded police unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (Sars), have been continuing for two weeks.

Reacting to the shootings in Lagos, several leaders, including the former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called on Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and the army to stop killing young #EndSARS protesters.

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has vowed to take the case up, saying that those behind the dastardly act would pay dearly.

“God have mercy on our people and on our nation. Those behind this great evil WILL pay! They will be brought to swift and savage justice! I SWEAR it before man and God.”
