Parliament Gazettes Special Sitting To Consider Martha Koome

Martha Koome

Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, has called a special House session on Wednesday to hear the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee’s (JLAC) report on Martha Koome’s vetting for nomination as Chief Justice.

Lady Justice Koome, who was scrutinized by the committee last week on Thursday, is now one step closer to succeeding departed Chief Justice David Maraga.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) chose Koome, who has an estimated 33 years of legal experience, from among ten applicants that were interviewed for the position of Chief Justice.

Should Parliament approve the report, Martha Koome will be Kenya’s first female Chief Justice.
