CDC: Asks People To Stop Kissing Pet Turtles

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported a recent Salmonella outbreak in pet turtles, affecting 11 states and causing 26 people to be infected.

The main cause is the illegal sale of turtles with less than four-inch shells, which were federally banned after causing many illnesses.

However, pet turtles can still carry Salmonella germs, even if they appear healthy and clean.

To prevent getting Salmonella from pet turtles, the CDC recommends washing hands, not kissing or cuddling, and keeping the turtle out of areas where people eat or drink.

Additionally, having designated cleaning supplies and disinfecting sinks or tubs when cleaning the turtle or its accessories is crucial.
