Police Inspector General calls for investigations on officers captured torturing JKUAT student.

Police Inspector General(IG) Hillary Mutyambai has ordered investigations of police officers who were seen in a video clip torturing a Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology(JKUAT)student during demonstrations over the rising insecurity cases in the area.

Mutyambai has condemned the attack saying that all police officers are professionally trained and should respect human rights and fundamental freedoms while restoring law and order.

“…use of force must be legal and of necessity to the needs of justice; it must applied to thr extent that it remains proportionate to the gravity of the offence and with full accountability. Every police officer is guide by the foregoing principles and will take individual responsibility in case of any violation.” He said in a press release.

The IG has stated that Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) has been directed to commence investigations and make recommendations for action within 24hrs.

He also assured the public that police officers found liable will be held accountable.
