Police Probe Five Eritreans Who Escaped From Embakasi Police Station

Five Eritreans who had been trafficked into Kenya and arrested escaped from Embakasi Police Station yesterday, October 18.

The aliens escaped under mysterious circumstances, and the daring escape was only noticed yesterday evening, when it was feeding time for all inmates.

The group, said to be victims of human trafficking, was detained at the Embakasi police station and was awaiting repatriation.

According to the two officers in charge of the inmates, the foreigners went inside the station to take a bath, but they never returned.

“The buckets and their clothes were however left at the washrooms. A manhunt has been launched for the foreigners,” a senior police officer said.

Early this year, DCI announced the arrest of wanted human trafficking suspect John Habeta, a 53-year-old Dutch-Eritrean national accused of smuggling Africans to Europe.

Habeta, who was extradited to the Netherlands, to face trial in the European nation.

The Directorate of Criminal (DCI) says Habeta had been on the run for four years.
