Police in Nandi County have seized a vehicle loaded with suspected ethanol and other illegal items following a dramatic chase at Ndurio Trading Centre.

According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Ndurio Police Post flagged down a white Toyota Harrier, registration number KCG 426D, on Wednesday after receiving actionable intelligence.

The driver attempted to evade arrest by making a U-turn but later abandoned the vehicle, which was then towed to Kobujoi Police Station.

A search of the vehicle uncovered three sets of number plates (KCM 924K, KBK 469Y, KBU 152S), 45 jerricans each containing 30 litres of a liquid suspected to be ethanol amounting to 1,350 liters in total as well as two rolls of cannabis sativa, a mobile phone, and a laminated smart driving license.

The vehicle remains detained at Kobujoi Police Station as exhibits are processed, and investigations continue. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who is still at large.

The NPS commended members of the public for their support and reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on illicit alcohol trade and related crimes that threaten public health and safety.
