In a significant breakthrough, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested the prime suspect in the brutal murder of Faith Kemunto, a young woman who was set to join Machakos University before her life was tragically cut short in July 2025.

According to investigators, the grim sequence of events began when Faith traveled home from Nairobi on July 27, 2025, to prepare for her upcoming university admission. On that fateful day, she left her home to meet her boyfriend, identified as Gidion Angisa, and was never seen alive again.

Her mysterious disappearance prompted her anxious family to report her missing at the Nyamuri Police Station. Despite initial search efforts for both Faith and Gidion, no leads were immediately found, deepening the family’s anguish.

The case took a critical turn subsequent investigations tracked Gidion Angisa to the Huruma estate in Nairobi, where detectives “smoked him out” of his hideout. His arrest proved to be a pivotal moment in the investigation; he was found in possession of Faith Kemunto’s mobile phone, a discovery that significantly strengthened the case against him.

The suspect was swiftly escorted to Nyamira and is currently being held at the Ekerenyo Police Station.

The investigation reached a heartbreaking conclusion when a body believed to be Faith’s was recovered from a shallow grave by the roadside. The exhumation was conducted after the Nyamira Law Courts granted an order to investigators.

To facilitate a thorough investigation, detectives have been granted a 21-day custodial order to detain the suspect. The complex case is now being handled by a multi-agency team comprising homicide detectives, forensic experts from the DCI National Forensic Laboratory, and officers based in Nyamira, as they work to piece together the final moments of Faith Kemunto’s life and secure justice for her untimely death.
