Prison Warden Lynched After Botched Robbery

A prison warden attached to Nairobi West Prison died last night after being cornered by angry members of the public following a robbery mission.

Constable Ken Kavunga Wali was part of a three-man gang that accosted a woman along Muchai Drive in Kilimani and robbed her of her mobile phone and other valuables. He was armed with a Ceska pistol loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm calibre.

Following the 9 p.m. incident, the woman raised the alarm, attracting enraged members of the public who temporarily abandoned their Christmas preparations and went after the bike with furry.

A brief chase ensued as the deceased revved the bike erratically, with his two accomplices perched perilously on the pillion seat!

After a few metres, the unfortunate bike lost track and briefly wobbled on the road before landing on the tarmac.

The thugs on the pillion quickly gathered themselves and limped away into the darkness, while the deceased was cornered by the unforgiving mob and beaten like a government mule with less consideration.

Detectives from the Capitol Hill police station rushed to the scene and rescued the warden from the enraged mob that had descended on him with an onslaught of blows and kicks.

However, the suspect died as a result of his injuries at Kenyatta National Hospital.

The deceased was found with a Ceska pistol serial number KE KPS H1768 and 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The detectives also impounded the suspect’s motorcycle, registration number KMFW 321J, and towed it to the Capitol Hill police station.

Efforts to apprehend the deceased’s accomplices are well underway.
