In the last few weeks, COVID-19 has disrupted economies and upended lives across the globe. In Kenya, we continue to struggle with the pandemic and other unprecedented challenges including an incessant desert locust invasion, and flooding owing to the ongoing torrential rains – By Prof. Margaret Kobia
The key challenge for Government has been to coordinate the response to the clear and present danger of COVID-19 to lives and the economy, as well as ensure citizens continue to receive essential and critical public services.
it is in times of such disruptions that the mettle of the public service community is put to the test. Public workers are expected to adapt to changes in the work environment and innovate new approaches to continue providing services.
The current crisis has ushered new approaches in work methods and service delivery not akin to the public service. Remote work, applying present day technologies is gradually becoming part of our public service arsenal, such as Zoom and web conference meetings.
Unnoticed, however, are many more in various cadres of public service who facilitate the front-liners from the backgrounds, silently ensuring that public services continue to be delivered.
To each one of you, we wish to register our deep appreciation for saving lives and for keeping our nation safe. Your health and safety remain a priority of Government as it works to save lives and protect livelihoods.
Together as a nation we will overcome and emerge stronger as we have previously done. To you, good health and safety.
