Principal Secretary for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Dr. Esther Muoria, has set an ambitious target to enroll 2.5 million trainees in TVET institutions by December 2025. Speaking at a sensitization forum held at Kiambu National Polytechnic, Dr. Muoria rallied over 300 principals, registrars, and department heads from TVET institutions across the Nairobi region to champion the roll-out of the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) modular curriculum.
The forum aimed to reinforce the government’s commitment to equipping youth with practical, market-relevant skills through a streamlined and flexible training model. “TVETs should have workshops, not just classrooms. We are here to offer skills that translate directly into employment,” Dr. Muoria emphasized.
Since the May intake, over 66,000 students have already enrolled in modular programs across the region. The CBET curriculum is built on the Know–Understand–Do model, focusing on mastery of competencies tailored to industry needs.
Dr. Muoria urged institutional leaders to play a proactive role in driving awareness, guiding trainers, and ensuring alignment with the new framework. “Principals, Deputy Principals, and Heads of Department are expected to provide leadership and technical oversight to ensure full adoption of this transformative curriculum,” she noted.
The initiative is part of the broader government agenda to enhance youth employability and economic inclusivity through skill-based education.
