PS Muthoni Leads Talks on Expanding Overseas Opportunities For Healthcare Workers

The State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, the British High Commission, the Ministry of Labour, and the Nursing Council convened strategically under the direction of Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni.

The meeting’s main goal was to increase the number of overseas opportunities available to Kenyan healthcare workers by leveraging the current recruitment agreements between Kenya and the UK.

Strengthening cooperative structures with meticulous preparation to enable the deployment of Kenyan medical staff to other countries needing their skills was the topic of discussion.

Earlier this year, UK Development Director Leigh Stubblefield and Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumichawaved off 76 unemployed nurses who would be stationed in different hospitals throughout the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

Kenya hopes to enhance the well-being of its migrant workers abroad by sending 20,000 nurses to UK hospitals under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding in July 2021.

These agreements are good examples of enhancing the capacity of Kenya’s health industry and empowering its workers through global mobility pacts that elevate individual talents.
