Raila Calls Crisis Meeting To Discuss NADCO Report

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition will hold a parliamentary group meeting today, Wednesday, 29 March 2023, at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (SKM) command centre.

According to sources, the agenda for the meeting, which will be chaired by the coalition’s top man Raila Odinga, will be to dissect the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.

The report, released on Saturday by a 10-member delegation team, elicited reactions from Kenyans and even created a schism between the opposition and the government.

NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua, along with Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa, who was part of the dialogue team, have disputed the report’s proposals.

They claim that the report did not recognise key issues affecting Kenyans, such as the high cost of living.

According to NADCO’s report, it was difficult to reach an agreement on the contentious Housing Levy as well as the reduction of VAT on fuel from 16% to 8%. The government has come under fire for the two levies.

The proposals are awaiting National Assembly approval and, if approved, President Willian Ruto’s assent.
