Raila To Name House Leadership, Insists On Azimio Majority

The alliance argued that they were the majority in the House and hence would pursue majority issues rather than minority positions.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party has announced that the names of those it has nominated for various House leadership positions in Parliament would be revealed on Monday.

Azimio will dole out the offices of the majority leader, the deputy majority leader, whip, and deputy whip to member parties in order to minimize friction and division, according to an agreement reached today during a retreat organized by coalition leader Raila Odinga.

The alliance argued that they were the majority in the House and hence would pursue majority issues rather than minority positions.

According to the coalition, each party must submit a name proposal by Monday, and committee leadership would be distributed evenly among members.

As the 13th Parliament prepares for business following the August 9 elections, the coalition is holding a two-day retreat at Stoni Athi Resort in Machakos County to discuss on the sharing of leadership roles in the National Assembly and Senate.

Mr Odinga stated that the Parliament’s responsibility will be to safeguard the judiciary, which he described as “open to state control,” as well as to alter the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission.

The party leader, who was joined by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, also stated that the MPs will prevent the Executive from volunteering themselves to undertake state capture.
