Reuters, an international news agency, has refuted charges that the integrity of its system for calculating Kenyan presidential votes was compromised.
The news organizations claimed in a statement released by the Reuters Press Team on Friday, August 12, that the anomaly that put Raila Odinga’s and Azimio la Umoja’s candidate totals at 44 million was the result of a data input error.
The global media organization based in London claimed that the problem was fixed as a result of social media users’ complaints.
“Some incorrect data briefly appeared in our live feed to Google of results from the Kenya election as a result of human error in data entry. This was corrected within 14 minutes, as soon as we became aware of it. We apologise for the mistake and have taken steps to address it,: read the statement in part.
The statement by the news outlet came after various social media users claimed that their system had been hacked in favour of some candidates.
Reuters is one of the international news organizations that has been compiling results of the recently ended presidential election.
Media organizations have been calculating the results using Form 34As and 34Bs that have been posted to the IEBC portal.
