Ruto Calls For Ngirici-Waiguru Truce

Deputy President William Ruto has finally stepped in on the Waiguru-Ngirici rivalry.

Ruto guaranteed free and fair nominations in the political squabble pitting Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru against county Woman Representative Purity Ngirici on the party’s gubernatorial ticket.

“I assure you that Kenyans will select who gets which ticket as I stand here.” After attending the consecration and thanksgiving ceremony of the New Anglican Church of Kenya, Diocese of Kirinyaga — All Saints Church in Kianyaga, Kirinyaga County.

Ruto assured other political aspirants that the UDA party would hold free, and fair nominations in line with its party’s commitment to be democratic.

Earlier in the day, followers of Waiguru and Ngirici clashed on the Kianyaga-Kutus route, closing it for several hours until police intervened.

As a group of youth allied to Ngirici lit ablaze reflectors and posters with Waiguru’s image, tensions were high.

"The UDA is a peace party; we do not support violence or skirmishes." We've all met folks who urge others to violence. We, on the other hand, want to be associated with strategies that work for the people," Ruto remarked.

He urged political candidates vying for seats in the UDA party to campaign peacefully.

"These young people want a future; they want us to find a solution to their unemployment." "I sincerely implore you, leaders, to keep peace," Ruto said.
