Safaricom CEO, Atwoli Son Land Govt Jobs in Latest Ruto Appointments

    President William Ruto has appointed Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa as new the Chancellor of Meru University of Science and Technology. 

    In a Gazette Notice published on Friday, November 3, Ruto appointed the CEO to serve in the position for a period of five years.

    His term in the position, as per the statement, commenced on November 1.

    “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, 2012, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint–to be the Chancellor of the Meru University of Science and Technology, for five (5) years, with effect from November 1, 2023,” the notice read in part.

    Consequently, the Safaricom CEO will replace Equity Bank CEO James Mwangi who was named as the Chancelor of the Open University of Kenya earlier in the year.

    In other appointments, the President named Sophia Abdi Noor to be the Chairperson of the National Council for Children Services, for a period of three years, with effect from the November 3.

    In addition, the Head of State appointed Prof Lukoye Atwoli to serve as the non-executive chairperson of the board of directors of Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital. His term, as per the notice, will commence on November 3.  

    “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act and Paragraph 6 (1) (a) of the Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital Order, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoints Lukoye Atwoli to the non-executive chairperson of the board of directors of Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital,” read the notice in part.
