Government Workers Set For Salary Increase

SRC wants public officers' salaries and allowances to be automatically reviewed every four years

Civil servants will soon join other State officers, such as the President, in the Salaries and Remuneration Commission’s proposed salary review plan (SRC).

In a proposal to Parliament, SRC wants public officers’ salaries and allowances to be automatically reviewed every four years to keep up with rising living costs.

If approved, the plan will fill a void in the public sector’s salary review procedure, which currently lacks a clear timeline.

The lack of legally mandated timelines for salary reviews has left civil servants at the mercy of strikes or signing Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) to push for pay raises.

With the approval, public officers such as teachers, lecturers, doctors, and nurses will join State officers such as the Head of State and Members of Parliament, whose pay is reviewed every four years.
