Former MP Conned Ksh 1.1 Million In Fake Borehole Deal

Clive Wabuye Wafukho, a serial conman, has been charged with defrauding Sh 1.1 million from businessman Sankok Teeka, a former candidate for the Kajiado North Parliamentary seat in last year’s elections, in a bogus borehole drill.

Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, Wafukho denied one count of Cheating contrary to section 35 of the penal code levelled against him by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

According to a charge sheet submitted in court, he is accused of scamming lawmaker Sankok Sh 1,186,000 on various days between August 22 and 29, 2022 at LC Plaza in Nairobi county’s Kilimani area.

The prosecution claims that Wafukho defrauded the complainant pretending to be able to drill a borehole for him.

Sankok had engaged the contractor to drill a borehole at his home, and after he paid him Ksh 1.1 million deposit, he vanished.

According to investigations performed by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at Kilimani police station, the accused is a serial fraudster who has defrauded 18 members of the public, including prominent activist Boniface Mwangi, millions of shilling using the same means.

Wafukho sought to be released on lenient bail terms saying he is the sole breadwinner of his family and will comply with conditions set by the court.

Magistrate Onyina, however, ordered Wafukho to be released on a bond of Sh 300,000 or a cash bail of Sh 100,000. The case will be mentioned on May 3 for pretrial.
