The Interfaith Council has urged Kenyans to disregard a press statement circulating on the social media, over a video clip of a distressed clergyman. – By Gerald Gekara.

“Please ignore this statement apparently commenting on the content of a clip from a Religious leader, which has been fabricated by persons who are insensitive to the difficult times we are living in.” The statement read.

In the viral video, one Bishop Peter Ambuka of PEFA Church, Kahawa West claimed President Uhuru was inflicting unnecessary pain to Kenya’s religion by closing places of worship.

He also claimed the COVID Virus wouldnt be stopped by a curfew.

Thereafter, this statement appeared on social media, purporting to respond to the bishop’s claims.

Archbishop Anthony Muheria however discredited the leader, saying the religious leaders should be at the forefront in supporting the government.

“We in no way support the sentiments expressed in the said clip. We as Religious leaders should help our congregants to understand the real threats of Covid-19 and comply with all directives. Our lives and those of our loved ones, depend on our compliance, and deserve all sacrifices.”

“We may feel disappointed by the limitations the restrictions imply but there are more courteous and mature ways to express it. Falsehood cannot be a way to peddle one‘s opinion whether right or wrong.”
