Sonko Claims To Be Granting Refuge To Alleged ‘Fake Lawyer’ Brian Mwenda

Sonko, who referred to Mwenda as his "future lawyer," defended him against impersonation accusations, saying he was "innocent" until proven guilty and that he would present him to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday.

Former Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has claimed to be with Brian Mwenda, who is wanted by police for impersonating an advocate.

Sonko revealed on his X account on Friday night that he is granting Mwenda refuge in Mombasa, just hours after the Law Society of Kenya called for his arrest.

Sonko, who referred to Mwenda as his “future lawyer,” defended him against impersonation accusations, saying he was “innocent” until proven guilty and that he would present him to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday.

“I still maintain that my future lawyer Brian Mwenda is innocent until proven guilty. Tuko na yeye huku Mombasani until Monday when we shall present him to the DCI to record a statement

Sonko reiterated his earlier remarks on Friday where he said he would bail out Mwenda further promising to sponsor him to the Kenya School of Law in order to have credible academic documents.

“It is very disparaging to see guys attacking this brilliant legal mind on social media… This guy has never killed anyone, he is not a criminal, ni brains zake anatumia,” Sonko added.

The ex-governor went on to praise COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, who pledged his support to Mwenda and urged the government to implement the principle of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), as well as a fair examination of his legal knowledge, skills, and competencies.

“Let us not condemn him. Huyu ni kijana mdogo sana. LSK president please have some mercy…it has happened. There are people in this country who have committed very big blunders,” Sonko said.
