Police in Taita Taveta has taken action over the police officer who was assaulted by Nairobi governor Mike Sonko and has forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji for him to take action.

“We are waiting for direction from the DPP and we have our own file here for action,” County Police Commander Said Mohammed Kiprotich said yesterday.

Authorities said the governor could be brought to Voi to answer the new charges.

The police said they had already prepared the charge sheet and the governor would soon be arraigned in court. Mr. Yakub and three other police officers have been listed to testify against the governor

The governor is said to have assaulted Commander Rashid Yakub at the Ikanga airstrip on the outskirts of Voi town last Friday as he was being arrested over corruption charges.
