Staff at KNH down their tools due to lack PPEs

Staff at the Kenyatta National Hospital(KNH) have downed their tools due to the lack of Personal Protective Equipment(PPEs).

Healthcare workers at the Accident and emergency department have reportedly protested working saying that Covid-19 patients are being handled at that particular department.

The workers are afraid of exposing their families to the disease once they go home since they do not have adequate PPEs.

The President of the Nurses Association Alfred Obengo has called upon the government to ensure there is a proper supply of all required equipment especially to workers in the frontline.

“You do not expect to send health workers in the frontline without protection, they might lose the war before they even start,” he said.

Obengo stated that the PPEs are not adequate and that some are of substandard quality which very risky to both health care workers and members of the public.

He said transport has been availed to healthcare workers from the hospital to their homes but that is still not enough as they might spread the disease to their families.

Director General Ministry of Health, Patrick Amoth, had earlier announced that the Government is looking into securing facilities for healthcare workers instead of going home to their families.
