Joyce Mwangoji, the Deputy Majority Chief Whip in the Taita Taveta County Assembly, has died.
Mwangoji died on the way to St. Joseph Hospital in Ikanga on Sunday morning.
“It is with profound sadness that, the County Assembly of Taita Taveta announces the sudden passing on of Hon.Joyce Mwangoji this morning, 25th April, 2021, at around 7.30am, while being rushed to St.Joseph Hospital, Ikanga .” a statement read.
Orange Democratic Movement nominated her as a member of the county assembly. Mwangoji was the Chairperson of Maendeleo ya Wanawake Taita Taveta County and a well-known human rights activist.
The body of the deceased has been sent to the mortuary of St. Joseph’s Ikanga Hospital.
Meanwhile, Governor Granton Samboja of Taita Taveta has paid tribute to Mwangoja, describing her as a committed public servant and human rights advocate whose service extended beyond the county.
