Taka Taka Ni Mali (TTNM), an East African Business Council member, has formed a strategic alliance with Alliance for Science to advocate for climate action on waste management.
The first in a series of high-level regional conferences dubbed the ‘Africa Waste is Wealth Series (AWWS)’ will be held in Nairobi on June 6-8, 2023, with the theme Promoting Effective Waste Management Practices for Environmental Conservation and Climate Change Mitigation.
Dr. Sheila Ochugboju, Executive Director of the Alliance for Science, stated at a signing ceremony in Nairobi that there is a need to address waste management issues.
“According to the Africa waste management report 2022, there is an urgent need for African countries to address current waste management challenges and to prepare for the expected growth in waste generation in the coming century.
“We as the Global South have solutions to waste management that the Global North can learn from, as we strive to balance the needs of people, planet, and sustainable legacies for future generations,” noted Dr. Sheila Ochugboju.
Mary Ngechu, TakaTaka ni Mali’s patron stated that: “This conference will unite government institutions, private sector actors, development partners, and finance organizations to develop the necessary regional commitments to scale best-practice sustainable waste management models.”
