Alfred Cheruiyot, from Elgeyo Marakwet County, and Careen Cheptoek, 21, of Homabay County, won the inaugural Roan Antelope Half Marathon on Saturday at Ruma National Park.
At least ten other athletes received medical attention after collapsing midway in the tough race, which drew participants from all walks of life.
Notable participants included Homa Bay deputy governor Oyugi Magwanga, Homabay TownMP Opondo Kaluma, Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino, and musician Akothe among other dignitaries.
Governor Gladys Wanga says the race will be an event aimed at marketing Ruma National Park as a tourist destination.
Winners pocketed Ksh 250k each, while the first and second runners-up took Ksh 150 and Ksh 100k respectively.
