Tanzania’s government has cautioned citizens not to share online articles or short movies that promote same-sex unions.

It has also warned that administrators of social media groups whose members publish pro-LGBT sentiments will face the consequences.

On Sunday, Information Minister Nape Nnauye addressed the media at the Tanzania Communications Authority (TCRA) headquarters in Dar es Salaam.

Mr Nnauye stated that some people promoted same-sex relationships by utilizing cartoon-related information that children enjoyed.

He stated that the government would not accept anyone popularizing behaviours that were against Tanzanian culture.

“Before we start investigating and arresting perpetrators who send, produce and distribute this content, it is better now that Tanzanians refrain from this,” he said.

The minister said TCRA (the regulator) was working to help ensure there was no content that violates the law.
