Teachers Given 7 Days To Get Vaccinated.. Or Else

The Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) has given teachers across the country seven days to receive a COVID-19 vaccine or face disciplinary action.

TSC was disappointed by the low vaccination rate among teachers, despite the fact that they were given priority as frontline employees. Only 33% of instructors have received all of their vaccinations.

On Monday, Nakuru Level 5 Hospital was bustling with activity as teachers waited in line to receive a dosage of the COVID-19 vaccination.

This comes just seven days before the expiration of the Head of Public Service’s ultimatum, which said that any public servant who did not take the vaccine by August 23 would face disciplinary action.

“We will be asking from our county directors and regional directors the number of teachers they have facilitated to get the vaccination and how many teachers are not vaccinated and for whatever reasons because MoH has assured us that there are enough vaccines,” said TSC CEO Nancy Macharia.

According to the commission, 110,432 instructors have been fully vaccinated so far, compared to a target of 330,671 TSC employees and roughly 150,000 private school employees.

549 teachers have contracted COVID-19 since the outbreak began, with 81 deaths reported. The timing of the immunization schedule, according to KUPPET, is to blame for the low vaccination uptake among instructors.
